When it happened, I was on my way to class with a hospital appointment. As I walked down the street, a man driving by shouted a racial slur at me. I was stunned, my birthday joy replaced by a wave of shock and disbelief.

It was a moment I’ll never forget, a reminder that racism is still a pervasive issue, even in seemingly progressive societies like the UK. The incident left me feeling hurt, angry, and frustrated. It made me question my world and the prejudices that still exist, even in the most unexpected places.

This experience has opened my eyes to the challenges faced by marginalized communities. It’s a reminder that we must continue to strive for a more inclusive and equitable society, where everyone feels safe and respected, regardless of their race or ethnicity.

Watch this video to hear how it happened, how I handled it, and my experience with Micro racism in the UK.

Until next time,

Funke.
