Female Development and Style

Staying true to my personal style has been a very difficult process; there was a point in my life I felt that I didn’t know myself and certain insecurities defined my personal style and it’s that not what it’s supposed to be about? Your style is supposed to reflect how you’re feeling and where you are.

That’s why personal style changes because you outgrow, unlearn and relearn. Also when I started blogging I toned my style down a bit, because I didn’t see anyone dressing like me and I didn’t understand what it was to be original to myself in the blogging world.

I’ve decided to accept my edgy style

Here are some tips on staying true to your personal style.

Being confident in your self

Confidence is key when you want to stay true to your personal style (individuality), you need to get to a point where if people look at you weirdly because of how you’re dressed, you look at them right back and ask what’s up?

Listen to your body

We have different body types and it’s important to wear what flaunts your best parts if I can call it that, if you can’t get enough of your curves and you feel more confident flaunting them. By all means wear that body-con dress, that banging high waist pants and anything that makes you stop in front of the mirror and stare.

5 ways you can get more from your personal style (while spending less)

Lifestyle

I can be a little over my head when it comes to dressing according to my lifestyle cause I’m more of a mood person. If I wake up feeling under, that’s how I’ll dress and my flexibility at work allows that but I know with time I have to be more conscious about my lifestyle and my outfit. In some schools, certain pieces are not allowed and also at work so there’s always a way you can tweak the style to your personal style and I hope to show you that with time.

Pay attention to your favorites

There’s a difference between being inspired by a look and copying a look. For example, I love @theladyvhodka style and I pay close attention to her not because we wear the same type of outfits but because she’s about what I’m about with style.

Staying true to your individuality and that inspires me about her. So you will not see me wear what she’s wearing piece by piece but she definitely inspires me. Pay close attention to people with the same vibe as you so when you feel like you’re doing too much or getting boring you see them and feel better.

THE OUTFIT POST

For this look, I wanted an edgy look. I mean I’m an extra girl. The fishnet and black lipstick were what I needed to have the right amount of edge. Palazzo pants have made a comeback and I’m here for it!

I plan on making a post just showing you how to Style palazzo according to your personal style and body shape.

OUTFIT DETAILS

Palazzo, crop top, and fishnets were all gotten from my thrift store @shopwitholotu and everything costs less than 4,500. It’s an Abuja based thrift store and I’ll be relaunching soon.it’s an online store for the average girl on a budget.

The pictures were taken by the amazing @stuffedbox

Thanks for reading.

How will you define your style? Fan of palazzo? How will you style them? Love to hear from you!

I have always admired your style from way back, I think it was the first thing that intrigued me about your blog and made me subscribe.

You’ve always been bold about how you look and also wear outfit that flatters your body and that is beautiful. these days, I don’t wait for a second opinion anymore about what I want to wear. As long as my mirror approves it and I am comfortable in it, I am good to go.

And I love how you added the fishnet on a palazzo, that’s rare and unique. Good post, Funke. Simple and straight to the point.

Funke!! I love how you make styling so easy! Well my style is more of “comfy” and sometimes my mood affects me too.

There are some times i feel like walking about naked with no clothes on lol but in all i also feel my style defines my personality. Styling oneself doesn’t really need much effort as far as you know what your soul desires and what suits your body, you’re good to go. Great writeup babes.

    Loving that lipstick btw.

Thank you Funke for this piece. You just inspired me to take back my sense of style that I gradually allowed to fade into people’s expectations of how I should look.
“You need to get to a point where if people look at you weirdly because of how you’re dressed, you look at them right back and ask what’s up?”
This really got to me. I’m owning my own style, and I’m going to be unapologetic about it. Hugs and kisses dear, you deserve even more.

Funkeeeeee lol. Love the look ??? I used to be crazy over crop tops but it has died down now. I love palazzos and pairing it with a crop top just like you did isn’t bad at all, a fitted shirt tucked in too not bad, a strap top tucked in too. Can’t wait to read your post on it. Do I have a personal style sha? I just wear whatever I see fa, but my mood determines it sometimes
