How to Treat Yourself – Poetry

What do you do when you are tired of how you treat yourself?

You breathe, calm down and listen to yourself.

What do you do when you feel stupid for allowing yourself settle for less?

You breathe, allow the tears flow, let your eyes hurt from crying and breathe again.

What do you do when you feel anger towards yourself?

You breathe, calm down, and remind yourself that you’re human; you’re soft, sometimes vulnerable, sometimes a little bit too hopeful, rarely, but this time. You settled for less.

What do you do when everything in you wants to break down but you can’t cry?

You breathe, you smile, and try to feel your emotions because you know that crying is part of letting go.

Will you call yourself stupid?
Not anymore.
Why?
Because I am not stupid, sometimes I just make the wrong decisions, and it’s fine.

Will you feel anger towards yourself?
No
Why?
Because anger keeps me stuck and I want to grow.

Will you talk to your friends?
Yes
Why?
Because they will make me feel better and not judge me.

Will you settle for less again?
No
Why?
Every time I’ve lowered my standards to accommodate what is not meant for me, I always regret it. Regrets are not part of the future I’m painting for myself.

I have always been very hard on myself, it’s hard to forgive myself but these days I’ve been writing down and taking time with how I treat myself. It helps me to be more compassionate with myself like I am to everyone around me.

Write this with your name and I hope this helps you.
