As my 25th birthday approached, I made a decision – to celebrate it with a group trip to Albania with my friends. It turned out to be an incredible choice, not only as a way to honor myself but also as an escape from the unpredictable weather of the UK.
But there was a twist to this adventure. You see, I’ve always had a paralyzing fear of heights. The mere thought of standing at a great elevation sent shivers down my spine. It felt like I could topple over and meet an untimely end.
Yet, I was determined to face this fear head-on, even if it meant crawling or asking for help. I saw this as a powerful metaphor for life. Often, the things we desire most lie just beyond our fears, and the courage to seek assistance when needed is a valuable lesson we all can benefit from.
Our journey led us to the Gamti Mountain hike with a breathtaking view of Bovilla Lake from Tirana. The adventure began with our tour guide picking us up, and we set off towards the mountain. Initially, the hike seemed relatively easy, but things took a turn when we started ascending the rocky terrain, relying on man-made stairs for support.
At this point, I was using my hands to steady myself, and our kind-hearted tour guide provided a helping hand, offering reassurance. My friends, true to their unwavering support, cheered me on, providing the morale boost I needed to persevere.
As we reached the top, I was met with one of the most awe-inspiring views I’ve ever encountered. The sight of the mountains and the crystal-clear blue waters of the lake left me in sheer wonder. Our guide explained that the extraordinary blueness of the water was due to its source – flowing from beneath the rocks and the melting snow.
After the hike, we made our way to the Bovilla restaurant. There, we indulged in delicious food, relaxed, and continued to soak in the breathtaking view that surrounded us.
Spending my last day as a 24-year-old on this remarkable adventure, encircled by my supportive friends, was an unforgettable experience. It was a day of conquering fears, celebrating life, and embracing the beauty that lies beyond our comfort zones. This journey was a perfect way to welcome a new year, filled with courage, growth, and an unwavering sense of pride.
