There has been an uproar online by women, especially African women on Always pad, This is part two of this article, I interviewed 15 women that have had terrible experiences with Always pad.

1. Why are you ditching always?

I can’t recall when exactly I stopped using Always pad but I’ve not used it for the past 4 years. Used always for the longest time because honestly, that’s all I knew, tried other options I could find then but weren’t as good.

Then one day I tried out Virony when I ran out and realized I had actually been suffering myself. My major problem with always was the discomfort I felt when I had it on, like yes I’m bleeding but I don’t have to be reminded every time I move.

I don’t know if this makes sense but the way the material feels it felt like I was always rubbing into the blood and due to heavy flow I always had to double sometimes triple my pad before I leave the house. My butt used to itch during my period, I don’t know if that played a part but I’ve not had it on a really long while.

2. What’s your alternative, another pad? Tampons, menstrual cup? And why

I currently use a different pad brand Virony, it serves me better because it contains way more pads in different sizes so I end up using a pack for like 2 periods instead of buying 2 packs for one period.

Also, it feels better when I’ve it on, I don’t feel “moist” when I’ve it on. Also, my checking, if I’m stained, has reduced dramatically. I still double my pads to be honest because I’m used to it and I’m not ready for had I known but rarely does it ever leak to the next.

Currently looking into tampons though cos I hear it’s more comfortable in general.

1. Why are you ditching always?

So I used to have irritations on my thighs, around my vagina and no clue why. I knew the Always pads were uncomfortable just not that they were the reason for the irritation. I used a Kotex pad in Dubai and it changed my life, super comfy, no irritations that was when it dawned on me that it was the Always pad that was the issue

2. What’s your alternative, another pad? Tampons, menstrual cup? And why

So as soon as I came back home, I went looking for the Kotex pads. They’re super thick and no fragrance as well. I have considered menstrual cups; I just haven’t committed to making the switch to cups yet

1. Why are you ditching always?

Always gave me terrible rashes! I would always feel like my vagina was on fire. In addition to cramps and hemorrhoids (which flare up around my period), it was all just too much

 2. What’s your alternative, another pad? Tampons, menstrual cup? And why

Now, I use Molped. It’s a cotton pad, and the length options are very favorable to me because I’m very self-conscious about spilling/staining. I also use Tampax Pearl.

1. Why are you ditching always?

I stopped using them as far back as 2011. I was in a boarding school and I knew when my friends were on their periods, as they walked I could hear their pads rustle against their panties Same with me, it would irritate my bum, give me sores, was barely absorbent and stick out.

 2. What’s your alternative, another pad? Tampons, menstrual cup? And why

I have used a lot of different brands, to be honest. After I got over the Always craze, I found cheaper, softer, more absorbent pads. Right now I’ll recommend Virony – it comes in a bag, it’s like N600-700 has like 20+ pads and it’s soft and absorbent. But the trick is to keep trying till you find what works best.

1. Why are you ditching always?

I’ve never been a fan of Always, I am not comfortable wearing them honestly. And I feel when it comes to pads, security and comfort should be 100 percent.

2. What’s your alternative, another pad? Tampons, menstrual cup? And why

I use lady care, the green one

1. Why are you ditching always?

Always is super uncomfortable, the material they use itches and causes butt rash. At least the always we have in Nigeria that I know of.

I ditched it for cotton pads a very long time ago, since secondary school. I don’t have a go-to pad brand, just as long as it’s a cotton pad. They are the most comfortable pads ever!!!!! For some brands, you could even forget you’re wearing a pad.

 2. What’s your alternative, another pad? Tampons, menstrual cup? And why

With tampons and menstrual cup, I’m not interested in sticking things into my Vagina so I’ll just stick with the good old fashioned pads

1. Why are you ditching always?

The regular blue, pink and purple make me itch so bad and I noticed they have a mild fragrance. Not sure that is good for the hoohah

 2. What’s your alternative, another pad? Tampons, menstrual cup? And why

I started buying the imported ones

The aim of this post was to enlighten us, I have not had bad experiences with Always pad but a lot of women have had and a lot of women that have do not know that the pad might be what’s causing the discomfort.
