In my last blog post – you can read that HERE – IDP camp -My Experience & What I Want to do For The Women I told you how we gave the kids in an IDP camp a sense of belonging by celebrating Children’s day with them and how I intend to help the women by providing clothes and sanitary products for them. Since then, I thought a lot about how I want to approach this cause and I have finally figured out how to go about it.
My goal is to organize a skills program for the women so they can support themselves but I also understand baby steps, today might be clothes, tomorrow a skills acquisition program. I decided to stick to my original plan – organize a clothing drive and raise enough money to buy food items and sanitary products to give to these women.
I’ll keep doing fundraising rounds until I raise enough money to design and implement a skills acquisition program that will also give three outstanding women mini-grants to start a small business.
People have reached out to me, happy to donate clothes and I almost rolled on the floor with excitement. However, there are things we need money for, like food items, clean water, mosquito nets, sanitary products, and clothes. Also, there’s the matter of the skills acquisition program.
I was nervous to put up this post because I have never started a fundraiser for any campaign, and I was worried about people not contributing to the cause.
I posted about my fear on twitter and some of my friends cheered me on, encouraged me to start it, and promised that they have my back. I did not expect so much support and I immediately created a savings challenge on Cowrywise.
I decided to use cowrywise to plan and save for this fundraiser because:
- It allows for transparency. Rather than asking for money to be sent to my account where it can get mixed up with my personal savings, I can create a dedicated savings account for the campaign. Everyone will see how much we have raised weekly as I will be posting screenshots on my Instagram page and twitter page.
I have heard of cases where people get scammed through fundraising and I do not want anyone to be suspicious plus everyone deserves to know where their money is going to.
- Saving on Cowrywise gives us interest. We need all the cash we can get so instead of getting the same amount we put in the bank or less because of bank charges and what not, saving the money through Cowrywise provides us with 10-15% interest per annum. More money, fewer problems.

I will appreciate it if you can donate to this cause. These women need us -they don’t have enough food to eat and they are in dire need of hygiene products, clothes, empowerment, and more.
The goal is to raise 100,000 Naira. 100 people contributing 1000 Naira each will help achieve that.
