7 Things I love about periods

Hey guys!
*clears cobwebs
Been a minute here, I’m sorry. Really.

Project has been getting in the way and your girl was down with Typhoid & Malaria, is it just me or is malaria getting to be the order of the day? Just me?

The topic of my post is probably shocking to my friends & course mates, they know how I flow like a river and also if you’re an avid reader of this blog and have read 8 things I hate about periods.

I’m currently on my period, and I’ve been feeling good about it, yes!  I have!  And before you think I don’t get PMS, girl/boy I do! Last week was just about me wanting to cut off my nipples, they we’re hurting that much!

I’m someone that sees beauty in everything & I’ve decided to channel this positivity to my period.  And also Kiran Gandhi is such a bad-ass, she ran the London Marathon during her period freely, she did it to raise awareness for the women who lacked access to feminine care products and crossed the finish line with blood soaked tights, how amazing!
Periods are like air, it’s here to stay, so it’s high time we start taking period like what it is, a normal thing.

It’s a natural and powerful thing, if you’ve ever been disgusted by period, do you know that it’s your mother’s blood that kept you alive for 9 months in the womb?  All that power!
I am tired of menstruation being looked at like a disease, I once read an article about a woman that died because she was suppressing her periods.
Every woman bleeds from their vagina, get over it.

Let’s get to the juicy part

Period boobies

They just had to be the first, girlllsss, y’all know what I’m talking about!.. When the boobies get Fuller and super pretty, asides the pains that comes with even air touching one’s nipples, I want to keep them forever.

During PMS and periods, we have lower estrogen and serotonin levels, which often causes our mood to drop. This drop in serotonin makes me become easily irritated, I clean everywhere and evaluate everything in my life.
From why I like yellow to why I’m friends with this person.
Periods are the perfect moment for one to reflect in ones life because our intuition is at it’s highest. Dr. Julie Holland writes in her book Moody Bitches. “The thoughts and feelings that come up during this phase of your cycle are real;
If you have not been taking advantage of your heightened intuition (periods super powers), you definitely should.
If you’re not feeling comfortable with who you’re with or what you’re doing, don’t think it’s because of your period and just let it slide, chances are you’re not in the right place.

Workout becomes more effective

This is something I’ve noticed personally, I get more noticeable results than when I’m not on my period. period time = gym time. Because the estrogen & progesterone levels drop, making me access carbohydrates /glycogen easily.
I read one time that women on their period are more likely to get ACL injuries than men, so you want to be careful.
Also workout reduces cramps for me, does it for you?

It gives me an excuse to be a nightmare

I can literally shoot some one and be like my bad, I’m on my period, break someone’s face, that’s what I do when I’m on my period, steal someone’s man.. I like them darker when I’m flowing.
Was that dry? I was trying to drop a joke, my friends think I’m dry.

But really, my lecturers are males and that excuse has been saving your girl since day one!

Makes me feel more feminine & reminds me that I’m a woman, a WOMAN.. like I have a world to protect, like I can control the stars and the moon.. I don’t know how else to explain

Excuse to eat, eat & eat!

I get really bloated and I think it’s supposed to make me not want to eat much but it’s the opposite, I eat, eat & eat… When i’m not hungry, I eat… Blame it on the period

It connects everyone

You will have stories to share – the conversation about periods is one that can never end. no matter where you’re from, your skin color, it’s something that can unite us and make us laugh at each other at the same damn time!

It’s time we take periods as our monthly reminders;  to rest, spoil ourselves & detox, two days of writing this post, I’ve stained my bed-sheet and my outfits but I’ve also taken some serious decisions with the people in my life, look at the beauty in the madness. will you?

Dig deep and tell me what you love about your period, what do we have in common? i want to know

Talk to you later sugar

  1. So true about period saving the day..wen u miss a class…nd guys especially need to adjust to their girlfriends or wives being on their period…nice write-up Funke

  2. Funke and her realistic posts! ?? Keep it coming girl…

I agree with period helping me to reflect. I’m more creative when I’m on my period too. While I feel bloated, I’m always less hungry which I like cos my tummy doesn’t fill up and I save myself from the horror of gaining more weight this period.

Great post dear? And that joke wasn’t dry ? I did smile…

  3. Really insightful post this is. I have never actually given my period that much thought, especially my “period mood”. I’ve always felt it was just that time of the month when I really didn’t like anything and everybody and was “just not in the mood” for stuff. I think I will pay more attention to those moods henceforth although my period doesn’t always come with bad moods sha, there are some months i’m extremely happy during my period.

For some weird reason, I kinda like period cramps (mine aren’t the roll-on-the-floor-screaming-in-pain kind so I can say this and get away with it…lol)
I absolutely love this post and I think you are amazing.

P.S: The joke was actually funny, and i’m sure your friends secretly think you are funny.

Okay let me come and be going before I start another blog post in your comments.

    1. Awwwwwnnnn… *having my biggest blush ever..

My friends will yimmu because you think I’m funny but I’m sure they know you’re right
      Have a good night rest

  4. The post title had my eyes popping for real. Lol. I can relate to the excuse part. I literally get away with terrible attitude whenever I’m on my period. Can’t say I like the heavy booby part though.

  5. This post tho’ i can relate to everything here. When i actually started seeing my period, i don’t usually experience the heavy boobs and pain but getting into my 20’s that creeped in. Imagine my fear the first time i experienced it, i thought i was pregnant 😂 because that’s one of the signs of early pregnancy. But above all you gotta love periods cuz it’s a gift from above ❤

  6. Girl, this is the first post I thought to read as I’m just visiting your blog for the first time. Really insightful and I love, love, love!!!

Keep the inspiration flowing abeg. Xo
